Do you understand security?
Better than most. The Squirrel Telecom system itself is secure but, as is often the case, the weakest link is the customer’s security. We would always recommend the use of individual PIN numbers for each voice mailbox and strong passwords.
There are two of us in our company.
Will we need two numbers?
Only if you want two numbers! Squirrel offers flexibility. You can have a number of people involved in calls on the one number, but available phones will still ring for incoming callers. Depending on the requirements of your business you may want to separate out types of calls, which direct dial numbers do perfectly.
So why would I ever need another number?
All sorts of reasons. You might want to promote a dedicated number for your service department, or you might want to monitor where sales leads were coming from. By using different numbers in different adverts or on different web sites, you can pinpoint exactly which is the most effective.
What happens if I am already on a call?
You have a choice on how to handle the second call depending on what is appropriate for your business. It could go to voice mail, be diverted to a colleague’s phone or be put into a queue. You can alter the way calls are handled by logging into your Squirrel Telecom system at any time.
Can I queue calls?
Yes, you can queue calls and have call waiting, allowing a member of staff already on the phone can be made aware that another caller is waiting to be answered.
Can I divert calls back to my office / secretary?
Yes, although we would encourage you to think about this carefully. Technically it’s easy to log into your system and alter how the calls are handled – but from a customer experience point of view, it’s frustrating for a caller to think they have dialled the direct line for person A and then get person B, or worse still to get a voice mail box because that person also happens to be unavailable.
So I’m talking to someone over the Internet. Does that mean other people can listen in?
The conversations you have will be at least as secure as fixed landlines or modern mobiles.
Can I keep the phone numbers provided by Squirrel Telecom if I leave?
Yes, although depending on circumstances there may be a reasonable transfer fee to your new provider. See our price list.
Can I take calls to my Squirrel Number on my smart mobile phone?
Yes, Click here for information on how our App works. We’re equally at home with iPhone, Android and Blackberry. We would suggest you use the Squirrel App. Refer to our price list for exact price.
Can I buy a mobile from The Squirrel?
Sorry, no. We’d love to sell you one, but we’d be taking your money unfairly. Mainstream phone providers sell in such huge volumes that we can’t hope to compete with them on price. Competing on phone service, well, that’s another story! Our app will work on your new or existing smart phone sourced elsewhere.
Can I send and receive calls between countries without these sky-high roaming charges?
Yes, so long as the broadband is fast enough in both countries. The Internet doesn’t recognise international boundaries!
Clients and friends know my existing numbers. Can I keep them if I switch to you?
Most of the time, yes. Ask us to check your number to make sure. It’s important to us that you don’t lose touch with valuable customers and people who might have had your number many years.
Will you tie me into a contract?
Only if you choose our contract option. All the rest of our services are provided on a rolling 30-day basis, so if you want to leave (though we’d be sorry to see you go) just let us know by speaking with a member of our team and, after 30 days, you’re a free to go.
Do I still need to get a number from BT?
No, we will provide the all numbers you need.
Who will bill me?
You will get a monthly bill from Squirrel Telecom, which we’d ask you to pay by Direct Debit.
How much will it cost?
Please see our price list.
Why do you rent the handsets?
We seek to keep the start-up cost as low as possible for our customers, so you can rent at low cost and swap if you find you want to upgrade. In the unlikely event you are not happy with service, you can return all the equipment and you will not be left with handsets that are of no use to you.
Mine’s a start-up business. Can you help me?
Certainly! Squirrel Telecom offers an easy-to-understand package at a special price for start-up businesses. We can sort out your phone requirements very quickly in a way that builds in ease of expansion to suit your growing business.
Will business expansion need expensive telephone modifications?
Not at all. Squirrel Telecom systems can be altered continually as your business – and your telephone needs – evolve. With Squirrel Telecom you’ll never incur large or unexpected extra capital costs. And, because we understand that business doesn’t always run smoothly, you can scale down as well as up.
Will this work on public WiFi, such as the local café or hot desk facility?
Yes, although the quality of the calls made and received will depend on the quality and load on their Wifi.
Can I still use my existing number?
Can I make my company look bigger by having my calls answered by a recording that invites the caller to choose and options 1 for this and 2 for that?
Yes, but will it really help your business? See our tip sheet.
What will my office phone look like?
Please choose from our range.
Do I have to plug it in myself? I am not good at technology, would someone come and do it for me?
We offer an installation service in certain areas.
I need to expand and the current phone system I have is too small, can I swap it for your service?
This is an ideal opportunity to review your phone system needs and ensure not only that you can replicate what you have that works for you, but also review what needs to be improved and expanded. And you’ll be safe in the knowledge that if you change your mind you can swap the equipment you don’t need for the equipment you find you do.
I’m setting up a new business. Can I reserve a number, pending getting started? If so, what’s the cost?
We would reserve a number for you, all you would pay is the monthly cost for the number until you were ready to roll with your business. Mouse here for our price list.
I need an additional line, would the Squirrel Telecom hosted service be good for this?
Excellent. Let’s do it.
Will it work alongside my additional system?
Maybe. However, it may prove to be more cost effective to replace the old system completely. If you want to work on a phased system to make use of expensive finance or call contacts, please contact our office to discuss.
Can I issue the same number from a land line as well as hosted?
Yes! read our Tip sheet on reducing Number pollution.
Can I have more than one area number?
Yes, a good example of a company wanting several area numbers is that of a driving school operating in several towns, but with one central office handling all the bookings. They advertise in all the surrounding towns using local dialling codes and are seen as a local company because all their instructors live near their customers, but the calls are all handled at one office without the need for expensive re-routed call systems.
What happens if I move?
A great advantage of Squirrel Telecom phones is that no matter where you move to, numbers with Squirrel are not tied to a location. You just unplug your phones, move then plug them back in. Just log and tell us your new location, so is the worst should happen the fire brigade know where to attend!
What handsets do you offer?
Please mouse over here for a list.
What features come as standard?
There are features associated to each hand set and system features. For system features mouse over here.
Can I talk to a real person?
Of course! We have a dedicated team of specialists. We’re so people-friendly that you won’t need to go through our quick and easy on-line sales process without talking to someone. Once you’ve filled in the order, and before you pay, we’ll talk to you on the phone to check that what you’ve ordered will do what you want, and that we understand each other – and then we’ll process the order. Old-fashioned service and values in the Internet age, that’s the Squirrel way!
How does your system work?
Forget how telephone systems used to work. Squirrel Telecom uses the internet to carry speech using technology called Voice Over Internet Protocol – or VOIP for short. It’s based on cloud computing – that’s the 21st-century technology we use to help you. But there’s no need for you to understand the technology, just what it delivers – phone conversations that are easier than sending an email, but get your message there even faster.
Will you tie me into a long contract?
As a Squirrel Telecom user you’ll be on a 30-day rolling contract, so you can leave us with ease – though we feel certain you’ll never want to, so might choose to ask for a contract! But that will be up to you.
My business has more than 1,500 employees at branches nationwide. Is that too big for you?
So long as you operate in areas with good broadband access, the size of the business is irrelevant. Our flexible phone solution can create a telephone system that’s perfect for you, with little or no up-front cost and for a predictable and very reasonable monthly bill.
